Clouds and
God's Glory
Clouds are often linked
with God and His glory. Consider the following, obtained
from the online bible:
Exodus 14:19 And the angel of God, which went before
the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the
pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and
stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the
camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them,
but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came
not near the other all the night.
Exodus 16:10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the
whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they
looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of
the LORD appeared in the cloud.
Exodus 40:34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the
congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the
tabernacle.
Leviticus 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto
Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the
holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which
is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in
the cloud upon the mercy seat.
1 Kings 8:10 And it came to pass, when the priests were
come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the
house of the LORD,
1 Kings 8:11 So that the priests could not stand to
minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD
had filled the house of the LORD.
2 Chronicles 5:13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters
and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in
praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up
their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments
of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good;
for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was
filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
2 Chronicles 5:14 So that the priests could not stand to
minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the
LORD had filled the house of God.
Ezekiel 10:4 Then the glory of the LORD went up from the
cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and
the house was filled with the cloud , and the court was
full of the brightness of the LORDS glory.
Sometimes a cloud is spoken of in connenction with obscuring
light:
Ezekiel 32:7 And when I shall put thee out, I will cover
the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover
the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her
light.
Our Lord Himself
together with the cloud:
Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright
cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the
cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am
well pleased; hear ye him.
Was it a brilliant cloud? Well, above we read "a
bright" cloud.
Other references:
Mark 9:7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them:
and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my
beloved Son: hear him.
The last mention in the gospels:
Luke 9:34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and
overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into
the cloud.
Luke 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud,
saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
At nearly the end of the bible, we have a reference to
what is a "white" cloud again. The online bible
greek says this "white" means a
"brilliant" cloud:
Revelation 14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud,
and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man,
having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a
sharp sickle.
This is the last mention of the bright cloud and our
Lord. In this scene, we see Him coming having a
"golden crown" on His head, a symbol of His
authority. There is "a sharp sickle" in His
hand, showing His purpose: judgement.
Reader, are you ready to meet the Lord Jesus? If
you are, then He will take you to be with
Himself before He comes in that cloud to judge
the world. He has provided the way to be
