There seems to be only one occasion when Jesus cleanses the temple:
Matthew 21:12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those that sold the doves.
Mark 11:15 And they come to Jerusalem, and entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold and who bought in the temple, and he overthrew the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of the dove-sellers,
Luke 19:45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those that sold and bought in it,
John 2:15 and, having made a scourge of cords, he cast them all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the change of the money-changers, and overturned the tables,
But we read of two occasions in Mark: ch. 11V11,
Mark 11:11 And he entered into Jerusalem and into the temple; and having looked round on all things, the hour being already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
then v 15 (see above).
It may be the two occasions in Mark are only one day apart: v11, Jesus goes into the temple in the evening, then returns the next day and cleanses it. This assumes that v 15 “And they come to Jerusalem...” is not many days or weeks since v11. |
