Life's
Legacy.
The Sun was bright and the air was crisp, as I
began my walk,
When midst the tinted bramble leaves, I spied a
dry dead stalk.
My mind recalled past spring and early summer
days,
This selfsame spot with glorious Foxglove blooms
ablaze.
My heart was sad as here I mused upon the glories
gone,
Of scenes of grace and beauty which once I gazed
upon.
How like one's life, filled once with
circumstances fair,
But as the years have fled, assumed a much more
sombre air.
I searched around that lowly spot, once filled
with song and hum,
Where now it seemed to me, decay and loss had
come.
And lo, down there a path of tiny Foxglove plants
so healthy,
To make another spring and summer day as equally
as wealthy.
My heart was cheered, my step revived, I took up
my walk again,
My thoughts now filled with hope and not with
loss and pain.
Praying that in the future here below, filling my
vacated place,
My offspring, noble, true, will fill this spot
with heavenly grace.
