MaryLou Engle 72 years

Right after World War 2 a young lady decided to move from her parents home in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and take nurses training at West Suburban Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. After visiting several churches she settled on Austin Avenue Gospel Hall where the Bible was taught and the gospel of Jesus Christ was faithfully preached.

Whilst there she met a young man named Kenneth who was a student at Moody Bible Institute and recently returned from being a tail gunner in a B-24 Bomber in the Pacific theatre. He had decided that the Lord wanted him to return to the Philippines with a sword (BIBLE) this time instead of a 50 calibre machine gun.

After several dates in and around the Chicago area and Lake Winona, they decided they should meet each others parents and pray together about their future. Ken left for the Philippines and immersed himself in the work of a missionary. Two years later Mary Lou received a proposal of marriage with one caveat. She must travel to the Philippines and be married there. With dress, mints and wedding cake she boarded a ship and made the thirty day trip to the South Pacific. They were commended to the Lord's work by Woodside Bible Chapel in Maywood, Illinois.

Serving the Lord took many forms over the next fifty years. Working with ladies, children's work, providing hospitality, and raising six children kept them busy. Mary Lou also played piano and organ and produced the four tape series (Hymns of Worship and Remembrance) which have sold over 6000 copies. Hundreds of children learned piano from May Lou and she was active in the Grace and Truth Gospel Chapel as well as the Baguio chapel they planted in the Philippines.

April 12 2003 Mary Lou passed peacefully into the arms of her Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ after several years of battling cancer. She is absent from her body but present with her Lord.

The bride eyes not her garment
But her dear Bridegroom's face
I will not gaze at glory
But on my King of grace
Not at the crown he giveth
But on His pierced hand
The lamb is all the glory
Of Immanuel's land

Hear MaryLou playing this lovely
hymn herself (from Tape 1)
